Sri Lanka Vesak Festival

Vesak is a religious and cultural festival in Sri Lanka, which is an important national festival. The significance of attending the celebration of Vesak in Sri Lanka is to understand the devotional way Sri Lankan people use to express their admiration for the Buddha. The President and the Prime Minister both attended the grand ceremony.


Mr. Ajita de Zoysa is the Chairman of the World Peace Association’s Sri Lanka Branch who is a devout Buddhist. His family has believed in Buddhism and has greatly supported the development of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.


Ven. Galboda Gnanisara Thero, who is the Chief Monk in Sri Lanka, is the Honorary Mentor to the World Peace Association, while Rev. (Dr.) Kirinde Assaji is the Executive Mentor to the World Peace Association. They are both highly respected monks. All of them are playing very important roles in the development of peace in Asian countries.
